Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi delights England fans with £2,000 gesture following Mexico World Cup victory
Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi reportedly footed a bar bill of nearly £2,000 for England supporters celebrating the Three Lions’ World Cup triumph over Mexico on Monday morning.
The 29-year-old was enjoying the match alongside fellow pop star Rita Ora at the Marlborough pub in Mayfair, where he watched England secure a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Once the referee blew the final whistle, Mr Capaldi handed his card to bar staff and instructed them to put all drinks on his tab in what witnesses described as a “legendary” act of generosity.
Ms Ora, 35, documented the raucous atmosphere on social media, captioning her clips: “NOTHING beats a London pub game EVER… It’s coming home!!!”
The pair were seen taking turns performing each other’s hits before joining fellow punters in chanting “Football’s coming home” as England’s win was confirmed.
Despite his own nation Scotland having been eliminated from the tournament last month, the Forget Me hitmaker showed no hesitation in treating the English fans to a celebratory round.
“When the final whistle went and England won, Lewis bought every single punter in the Marlborough a drink,” a source told The Sun.
“Bar staff were instructed to charge all the drinks ordered to him. The tab was almost £2,000 in the end.”

The witness added: “It was a massive treat and a real lovely gesture, especially from a Scotland fan.”
Mr Capaldi had arrived at the venue before kick-off with friends, with Ms Ora and her group joining later in the evening.
“Lewis was a proper legend,” the partygoer continued. “As well as buying that massive round he was so sweet to anyone who came up to him. He didn’t make a fuss of it, he just wanted to celebrate.”
England’s victory came in dramatic fashion at the Estadio Azteca, with Jude Bellingham netting twice in the space of 98 seconds during the first half to give Thomas Tuchel’s side a commanding lead.

Jesus Quiñones pulled one back for Mexico before half-time, and the match took a further twist when Liverpool defender Jairo Quansah was dismissed for what was described as a “nasty challenge” shortly after the break.
Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot to restore England’s two-goal cushion, but Raúl Jiménez reduced the deficit from 12 yards to set up a tense finale.
The 10-man Three Lions held firm to book their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway on July 11.
“What a crazy, crazy game,” Kane said afterwards. “So many things against us as a team… but we stuck at it.”

Mr Capaldi has a busy weekend ahead, with back-to-back headline performances at BST Hyde Park on Saturday and Sunday.
The festival organisers added the second date after tickets for his initial show sold out rapidly, with Conan Gray and Jacob Alon confirmed as support acts for both evenings.
Following his pub celebrations on Monday, the Grammy-nominated artist performed in Newcastle as part of his ongoing comeback UK tour.
Once his summer schedule concludes, Mr Capaldi plans to retreat from the spotlight to begin recording his third studio album.
The record will follow his 2023 chart-topper Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, after which he took an extended break to address his mental and physical wellbeing.
Speaking at TRNSMT festival in Glasgow last month, he told the crowd: “After this summer, I’m gonna go away for a bit and make an album.”
