Gloria Hunniford shares candid update on career future as she reflects on decades in the spotlight
Gloria Hunniford has declared she has no plans to step away from the spotlight, despite being 86 years old.
The veteran broadcaster, originally from Portadown in Northern Ireland, expressed her gratitude for her enduring career in television and radio.
“After so many decades, I feel truly blessed to still be working in an industry I adore – and I can’t wait to roll back the years and watch some of the highlights again,” she said.
The Rip Off Britain presenter made clear her commitment to continuing her work on screen.

“It’s a privilege at 86 to still be fronting TV shows and connecting with so many viewers – I love every minute and have no intention of stopping,” Ms Hunniford added.
Ms Hunniford broke new ground in the 1970s when she became the first female presenter to host her own daily programme on BBC Radio 2.
She remained at the helm of that show for 13 consecutive years, establishing herself as a trailblazer in British broadcasting.
Her pioneering achievements extended to television, where she became one of the earliest women to front her own chat programme with Sunday, Sunday.

The broadcaster’s career began in television behind the scenes as a production assistant during the same decade.
She went on to present numerous series, including the popular daytime programme Pebble Mill at One.
Her introduction to performing came far earlier, however, when she assisted her father as a magician’s helper at just four years old before touring Ireland as a singer aged seven.
BBC Four will honour Ms Hunniford’s remarkable career with a dedicated evening of programming scheduled for Saturday 8 August at 8pm.

The special broadcast will draw on material from the corporation’s archives, showcasing memorable moments from her decades in the industry.
Ms Hunniford expressed enthusiasm about revisiting her professional journey through the tribute.
The celebration arrives several months after she was granted the Freedom of the City of London, an accolade recognising both her entertainment work and her campaigning efforts as a breast cancer charity ambassador.
Her charitable endeavours have been a significant part of her public life, particularly through the Caron Keating Foundation, which she established following the death of her daughter from breast cancer in 2004.

Throughout her extensive career, Ms Hunniford has presented the BBC One consumer programme Rip Off Britain and appeared regularly on ITV’s Loose Women.
Her television appearances have also included stints on This Morning as a news reviewer, presenting duties on The One Show, and participation in entertainment formats such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Masked Singer.
In recognition of her charitable contributions, Ms Hunniford received an OBE in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours for her services to cancer charities, specifically her work supporting breast screening services and cancer support initiatives.
The foundation she created in memory of her daughter Caron Keating continues her commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer, a cause that has remained central to her public work alongside her broadcasting duties.
