Jade Goody’s widower Jack Tweedy slapped with driving ban and fine after pleading guilty to drug-driving
Jack Tweed, the widower of Big Brother star Jade Goody, admitted to drug-driving at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Mr Tweed had been caught with cannabis in his system at nearly triple the permitted level in December last year.
The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant, from Buckhurst Hill in Essex, entered a guilty plea to a single count of operating a motor vehicle while exceeding the legal threshold for a specified controlled substance.
Magistrate Andrew McGregor handed Mr Tweed a statutory 12-month disqualification from driving.

He told him: “You cannot drive any motor vehicle on any roads used by the public from this until the end of your disqualification.”
The court also imposed a £692 fine, a £277 surcharge, and £85 in costs.
Police had stopped Mr Tweed on December 6, 2025, as he drove his Volkswagen Golf along Three Mile Hill, close to Chelmsford.
Prosecutor Rebecca Debenham told the court that “officers believed cannabis may have been present in the vehicle and Tweed may have been driving under the influence of that cannabis”.

After failing a roadside drug test, he was transported to a police station, where a blood sample was taken.
The test revealed 5.6 micrograms of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol – the principal psychoactive compound in cannabis – per litre of blood, well above the two-microgram legal threshold.
Mr Tweed had initially been charged by post in March, and a hearing originally listed for May was subsequently pushed back to this week.
Addressing the court, Mr Tweed spoke candidly about his reasons for using the drug.

“I’m not making excuses, I’ve been through some trauma in my life, other stuff that led to me having depression and anxiety,” he said.
“I can’t sleep at night, I’d found having a little bit of that helps me sleep through the night and that’s what I was doing.”
He explained that he had consumed cannabis the previous evening as a sleep aid, calling his decision to drive the following morning “stupid”.
Dressed in a black top, Mr Tweed told magistrates he now earns roughly £3,000 monthly working as an electrician and has since found drug-free methods of managing his difficulties.

“I apologise, I’m sorry,” he added.
The court heard Mr Tweed had seven prior convictions spanning 14 offences, among them a 2007 drink-driving conviction.
Mr Tweed first met Ms Goody in 2005, following the end of her relationship with television presenter Jeff Brazier, with whom she had two sons, Bobby and Freddy.
The pair’s romance played out publicly, and in 2007, Mr Tweed joined Ms Goody and her mother Jackiey Budden as a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother.

After a brief separation in 2008, the couple reconciled and wed in an emotional ceremony at Down Hall country house near Hatfield Heath, Essex, in February 2009 – just weeks before Ms Goody’s death from cervical cancer at the age of 27.
Her highly public battle with the disease was widely credited with raising awareness of cervical cancer across the country.
