Penny Lancaster delivers Rod Stewart health update after singer’s heart operation forced him to cancel tour
Penny Lancaster has declared that her husband Sir Rod Stewart will “come back stronger than ever” after the heart procedure that forced him to abandon his touring schedule.
The 55-year-old said in a new interview that the 81-year-old rocker “can’t wait to see his fans again,” having been overwhelmed by “so many wonderful well wishes and support” since cutting short his One Last Time tour across the US and Mexico.
Ms Lancaster said the experience has given Sir Rod a renewed sense of energy.
“He’s going to come back stronger than ever, I found it hard enough as it was to slow him down so now he feels like he’s got a new lease of life,” she said.

Ms Lancaster painted a vivid picture of just how physically demanding her husband’s stage shows are, explaining that she had to make this clear to his medical team.
“I did have to explain to the doctor what Rod’s performances are like, he doesn’t just sit down on a stool or behind a piano, he runs around for nearly two hours with four different costume changes because he’s sweating through everything,” she said to the Press Association.
She likened his explosive energy to that of “a boxer coming out of his dressing room on the way to the ring, or either a horse coming out the blocks,” adding that he performs at “100 miles an hour and doesn’t stop.”

INSTAGRAM/PENNY LANCASTERGiven the intensity of his shows, doctors determined the tour had to be shelved as a precaution, although the decision left Sir Rod “devastated.”
The procedure took place in mid-August, when a coronary stent was successfully inserted.
Sir Rod had pulled out of a performance in Ohio at short notice on August 9 before the full extent of the situation became public knowledge.
In an Instagram message to his 1.7 million followers, he remained positive. “I’m already feeling better and very much on the mend,” he wrote. “I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me.”

He added that he was “deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down.”
The cancelled dates included a six-night residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, along with further stops across the US and Mexico that had been scheduled to run into September.
Ms Lancaster revealed that Sir Rod has already returned to his normal routine, though the couple has been following strict medical guidance about how much physical exertion he can undertake.
“I mean he does not sit down, I can never find him, he’s, you know, he’s got his hobbies, I mean he’s just been in the gym working out, but we were under strict instructions about the level of workout he could do, and it’s a gradual, build him up, build him up, kind of thing,” she said.

A separate statement from his representatives confirmed that doctors were satisfied with his progress and that he had resumed everyday activities.
His medical team advised a full month away from performing to regain complete fitness, with Sir Rod expected to return for American tour dates in 2027.
The stent procedure was the latest in a series of health setbacks that disrupted Sir Rod’s summer schedule.
Earlier in the season, an acute upper respiratory infection developed into laryngitis, forcing show cancellations.

Shows in Nevada and California were also called off in May and June.
Despite these difficulties, the singer appeared in good spirits just nine days after revealing his heart procedure, when he was spotted cheering on Celtic at Celtic Park alongside his 20-year-old son Alastair.
