Neil Henderson, the Glasgow-born guitarist who played with both the Bay City Rollers and Middle of the Road, has died at the age of 73 following a prolonged period of ill health.
His passing was confirmed on Friday by his former colleagues in Middle of the Road through a statement posted on Facebook.
The band revealed that Henderson had been battling to recover from a stroke he suffered several years ago, which left him in declining health.
During his career, Mr Henderson served as lead guitarist and songwriter for two of Scotland’s most prominent pop acts of the 1970s, first joining the Bay City Rollers in 1970 before later moving on to Middle of the Road.
He is survived by his two daughters, Heather and Shona.
Mr Henderson became a member of the Bay City Rollers at the start of the decade, remaining with the Scottish pop rock outfit for two years between 1970 and 1972.
He featured on the group’s first charting single, Keep On Dancing, which marked their initial breakthrough.
