Matt Lucas sets record straight over Little Britain return rumours as actor speaks out on possible comeback
Matt Lucas has firmly dismissed speculation that Little Britain is being revived, responding to a report that he and David Walliams had reactivated Little Britain Ltd.
The production company was originally established for the sketch show prior to its premiere in 2003.
The 52-year-old took to X on Friday evening to quash the rumours. “I don’t know where this story has come from but there are no plans to reboot this show,” Mr Lucas emphatically wrote.
The Sun had claimed the comedy duo was plotting a comeback, suggesting it would likely land on a streaming platform rather than a traditional broadcaster.

The publication argued that given the show’s controversial reputation, a return to BBC One or another major channel was improbable, with a streamer “making braver decisions” being a more plausible destination.
The programme has recently found a fresh audience through social media. Clips from the original series have spread widely on TikTok, capturing the attention of teenagers who were not yet born when it first aired.
Mr Walliams, 55, has previously spoken about witnessing this generational rediscovery firsthand through his 13-year-old son Alfred.
“Everyone at his school is talking about it. People are sharing on TikTok. It’s a whole new generation discovering it,” he said. “I think those social media things are great for one or two-minute clips.”

The comedian also noted the constant public appetite for more material, remarking that somebody asks him daily whether additional Little Britain is on the way. “Every day someone comes up to me in the street,” Mr Walliams added.
The show’s contentious legacy led to its removal from BBC iPlayer and Netflix in 2020, with both platforms citing that “times have changed” since the programme originally broadcast.
Come Fly With Me, another Mr Lucas and Mr Walliams creation, was similarly pulled.
The series had drawn criticism for featuring characters in blackface, mocking transgender people, and allegedly ridiculing working-class communities.

Mr Lucas himself acknowledged these failings back in 2017. “If I could go back and do Little Britain again, I wouldn’t make those jokes about transvestites. I wouldn’t play black characters,” he said, describing the comedy as “a more cruel kind” than he would produce today.
Mr Walliams has also similarly conceded he would “definitely do it differently” given the current cultural climate.
Though a full revival appears off the table, Mr Lucas and Mr Walliams have reconnected professionally in recent years.
The pair launched their podcast, Making A Scene, in 2025, and have previously quipped that their collaboration resumed because both had been “cancelled.”

Their careers diverged significantly after they ceased working together in 2011.
Mr Lucas relocated to Los Angeles, appeared in films such as Bridesmaids, and later co-presented the Great British Bake Off from 2020 to 2023.
Mr Walliams became a Britain’s Got Talent judge and established himself as a bestselling children’s author.
However, last week, HarperCollins dropped his entire book catalogue, having previously severed ties with him over allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards young women. Mr Walliams strongly denies behaving inappropriately.
