The Grand Tour releases first trailer for new series without Clarkson, May and Hammond as new hosts take over

In the action-packed trailer, the trio are shown racing one another across perilous landscapes and putting a range of vehicles through punishing tests.

The clip maintains the typical chaotic format of the show, with one standout moment showing the new presenting clan atop a hill, sending three beaten-up cars tumbling down to their destruction.

A narrator’s gag about “swapping the worn-out knobs in cars for new ones” draws a swift cut to Mr Bourgeois, who responds: “That’s us.”

Mr Bourgeois, whose real name is Luke Nicolson, rose to fame through his trainspotting videos, which frequently went viral on TikTok and Instagram and attracted appearances from Joe Jonas and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The 26-year-old is also a qualified mechanical engineer who has worked at Rolls-Royce, lending genuine automotive credentials to his role as what the show’s producers describe as a “secret petrolhead.”

Mr Holland and Mr Engelsman are the pair behind Throttle House, a widely followed YouTube channel specialising in car reviews and track assessments.

Canadian-born Holland, who studied biology, launched the channel in 2015 “out of boredom,” initially concentrating on BMW projects.

The operation gained real traction when British-born Mr Engelsman came aboard in 2018, having pitched ideas and asked to feature in Mr Holland’s videos. The two first met in person at a gathering of Miata enthusiasts.

Prior to the trailer’s release, Mr Bourgeois described the scale of replacing Mr Clarkson, Mr May, and Mr Hammond in humorous style: “The saying ‘big shoes to fill’ spring to mind.

“Well, in this case, it’ll be like Mo Farah running in Size 14 wellies – it’ll be a little awkward at first, perhaps blister-inducing, but will overall be an interesting watch.”

Reflecting on the shoot, he added: “It has made me laugh, made my heart race and my stomach turn — remembering the tent I shared with Thomas and James filled with sulphuric farts whilst Angolan jackals snooped around outside.”

Mr Engelsman has also spoken of the adventures awaiting audiences: “We took on the West African Desert. We contended with fighter pilots. We even decided to challenge an entire nation’s legal system by protesting from the mountain tops.”

Mr Holland struck a self-deprecating tone: “We were on our own in some absolutely wild environments in very, VERY questionable cars. What did we learn from this experience? Only that we have very poor decision-making skills.”

The original presenting team bowed out in September 2024 with their farewell special, One for the Road, having fronted the series since departing Top Gear in 2015.

Their production company, W Chump & Sons, was subsequently dissolved, with a liquidator appointed to wind up the business.

However, Mr Clarkson, Mr Hammond, and Mr May will not vanish entirely from the screen. The trio are set to make cameo appearances in the new run, formally handing the reins to their successors.

Show co-creator Andy Wilman told 3Bs radio at the Buckingham Literary Festival: “Our guys are in the shows doing cameos, so we’re wishing them well because we do want to pass that baton on.”

Mr Wilman cautioned against expecting a like-for-like replacement, noting that simply parachuting in “three new, good presenters who are funny” would never work.
