James May issues Jeremy Clarkson health update after private chat with Top Gear co-star amid cancer battle
James May has provided a reassuring update on Jeremy Clarkson’s condition following the 66-year-old’s battle with prostate cancer.
The engineering enthusiast told viewers of Matt Allwright’s Channel 5 programme yesterday that his former Grand Tour co-presenter is doing well.
Appearing on the show’s “pubs special” on Wednesday afternoon, the 63-year-old was asked how Mr Clarkson is getting on health-wise.
“Oh, he’s fine, as far as I can tell,” Mr May replied.

He added: “I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, and I think he’s over the hurdle.”
Mr Allwright responded: “Okay, well, that’s lovely to hear.”
The Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? presenter revealed he has cancer during an episode of his hit farming show Clarkson’s Farm.
The broadcaster and writer revealed he has been grappling with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer.
James May is best known for roles on The Grand Tour and Top Gear | PAAhead of the release of the final two episodes of his Prime Video series, Mr Clarkson warned fans the episodes were “a difficult watch”.
Mr Clarkson announced he was officially in remission days later via a newspaper interview after subsequent test results.
Speaking to The Times earlier this summer, he reflected on how serious his situation could have become.
“I am without a doubt, officially, the world’s luckiest man”, he said.

“It was an aggressive type of cancer.
“It could have spread, it could have gone into the pancreas, it could have gone anywhere, and that would have been trouble.”
The 66-year-old also took to Instagram to address his health directly, writing: “You will have noticed that I’m not dead.”
He continued: The reason why I’m fine is because the doctors caught the prostate cancer early, and they caught it early because I got tested.”

PRIMEBefore his cancer diagnosis, Mr Clarkson had already faced a significant health scare in 2024, when he underwent heart surgery to have stents fitted for blocked arteries.
Since sharing his prostate cancer experience publicly, the former Top Gear presenter has thrown himself into campaigning for greater awareness of the disease.

He has repeatedly encouraged men to get tested, stressing that early detection was the sole reason he survived.
His advocacy has centred on the message that routine screening saves lives.
