Tina O’Brien in furious clash with photographer as ITV Coronation Street shares confrontation video

Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien posted footage on her Instagram Story capturing a heated exchange with a photographer who approached her near her home.

The video shows a man carrying a camera confronting the soap star after she apparently made a rude gesture towards him for filming her as she left her house.

The clip showed the photographer walking towards her before stating: “Can I ask why you were giving me the w***er sign?”

Ms O’Brien responded: “Because I don’t particularly like being filmed or photographed, do you?”

He replied: “No, but I’m not on TV, I’m not on Coronation Street,” prompting the actress to point out: “Did I ask for it? Did I ask you to?”

“Well you’re on Coronation Street, so it’s your own fault,” the photographer doubled down.

He added: “It’s part and parcel of being a celebrity, if you don’t like it, go work at Tesco.”

Following the confrontation, Ms O’Brien took to Instagram with a written statement providing context about the incident.

The 41-year-old clarified that the encounter did not take place outside television studios or at any public event, but rather at the end of her own street.

She explained that photographers position themselves at a nearby coffee shop which offers a direct sightline to her front door, where they wait for her to emerge from her home.

“If you ever see a photo of me in the paper looking completely unaware or just going about my day, please know those aren’t ‘set ups,'” she wrote.

“They’re taken by photographers waiting outside my home.”

Ms O’Brien acknowledged that working in television naturally generates public curiosity, but maintained this should not require abandoning all expectations of privacy.

The actress argued that simply going about her daily routine, such as walking to local shops, should not make her fair game for photographers.

“I completely understand that being on TV means people are interested, but I don’t believe that means giving up any expectation of privacy when I’m simply walking to the shops or living my every day life,” she stated.

She also disclosed that she is currently searching for a new home that would afford her greater privacy, adding a laughing emoji as she expressed her wish to simply “pop to Tesco in peace” until then.

The Instagram confrontation comes as the actress has been hinting at what lies ahead for her long-running character on the ITV soap.

Sarah Platt, whom Ms O’Brien has portrayed since 1999, faces arrest for murder in forthcoming episodes after being revealed as the person responsible for Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) death.

The storyline has prompted speculation about whether the actress might be departing the programme after more than two decades on the cobbles.

Ms O’Brien recently shared images from her Coronation Street dressing room alongside holiday snaps, captioning the post: “In no particular order, gorgeous last few weeks.”
