Planning row erupts over Bridgerton filming location as neighbours rage at 3am car convoys and foul smells
A filming location used in Netflix series Bridgerton has become embroiled in a bitter planning row – leaving neighbours furious over traffic, smells and smoke.
North Mymms Park in Hertfordshire, which doubles as Clyvedon Castle in the show, has faced a barrage of complaints from local residents.
Locals allege the Hatfield venue’s use as a film location puts them in danger, pointing to traffic in the middle of the night and film vehicles on local lanes.
They have also complained about foul smells and smoke from the site, located around an hour from London.
Netflix drama The Crown, Timothee Chalamet film Wonka and David Mitchell’s BBC comedy Ludwig have all shot at the Grade-I listed building.
One neighbour clamed a recent shoot resulted in a “substantial volume of artificial smoke”.
This came with a “strong gas-like odour”, detectable from up to a mile away, the neighbour alleged.
One resident said convoys of filming vehicles passed their home as late as 3am.

On another occasion, vehicles were being handled by security guards at around 4.30am, according to the Mail.
Neighbours reported the incident to police.
It has also emerged that the mansion is seeking retrospective planning permission to allow it to be used for commercial filming.
But North Mymms Parish Council has lodged a “major objection” against the property.

Council documents reveal residents have complained of having their driveways blocked for up to 10 minutes, restricting emergency vehicle and private access alike.
Dog-walkers and pedestrians who may have previously used the pathways around the venue are now “frightened to use this road for walking”, the documents added.
It also said activity around North Mymms Park was “creating harm to the peaceful nature of this rural area and its historic structure”.
Planning consultants for the property, however, have insisted filming only takes place occasionally.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council will now decide whether to grant permission.
It comes as locals in Bampton, Oxfordshire – the filming location of Downton Abbey – are locked in a planning row of their own.
Meigjbours have opposed plans for a 190-home development while Thames Water has indicated it cannot handle additional sewage in the area.
One villager said: “It’s a shame how places like Brampton become over developed with no real infrastructure to cope with such influx of houses.”
