Wayne Rooney warned ‘you can’t keep doing this’ as wife Coleen fumes after late night out

Wayne Rooney has poked fun at his chequered past by claiming he is already on his third “doghouse manual” in a revealing first look at his family’s new reality series.

The former Manchester United and England striker, 40, is reprimanded by wife Coleen after staying out late with friends during a family holiday in the trailer for The Real Rooneys.

Coleen, also 40, makes her frustration clear as she tells him: “It’s meant to be a family holiday. You can’t keep doing what you do.”

The footage then switches to the couple’s sprawling Cheshire mansion, where a sheepish Wayne attempts to laugh off the dispute.

“The doghouse manual… I’m on my third book,” he jokes.

The exchange offers an early glimpse of the remarkably candid access granted to cameras for the forthcoming Disney+ series, which follows Wayne, Coleen and their four sons – Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass.

Rooney and Coleen met while growing up in Croxteth, Liverpool, before marrying in 2008.

Their relationship has endured intense public scrutiny, with his behaviour away from football repeatedly thrust into the spotlight.

In 2021, he was pictured during a drunken night in a hotel room with three women.

The former striker has previously admitted that Coleen’s loyalty helped save him, claiming he would be “dead” without her support.

Yet the new programme will also show a changing dynamic inside the Rooney household as Coleen capitalises on her growing television career.

Her profile soared following her appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which came after she won her headline-making libel battle against Rebekah Vardy.

“Since the court case and then the jungle, it’s opened up a lot of doors,” Coleen says in the teaser.

“So I’m getting back to work and Wayne’s helping out with the school run.”

Their sons appear ready to provide some of the show’s most brutal moments. Asked whether his mother or father is more famous, Klay answers: “My dad. My mum is only known because of my dad.”

Rooney also jokingly questions the chaos of parenting, asking: “Why did I have kids?”

When pressed on whether the couple could expand their family, he adds: “I’ve had the snip.”

The former Everton star, who now works as a BBC pundit following several challenging spells in football management, is also filmed sharing some more unusual experiences with Coleen.

One scene shows the pair wearing orange survival suits while floating in freezing water and drinking champagne.

“I never thought when I was growing up in Crocky that I’d be dressed as a squid drinking champagne,” he laughs.

But the series will not shy away from the strain behind their privileged lifestyle. Coleen is seen breaking down as she admits: “There’s a lot of pressure.

“It’s just a bit hard juggling everything. The house is not happy.”
