Vicky McClure drops major hint about Lana’s future in explosive ITV Trigger Point series
Vicky McClure has dropped a major hint about the future of her Trigger Point character Lana Washington as the ITV thriller prepares to return for an explosive fourth series.
The 43-year-old has played Metropolitan Police bomb disposal expert Lana since the drama launched in 2022, with the character enduring an extraordinary amount of tragedy throughout the show’s run.
Speaking at a screening attended by GB News, Ms McClure suggested the upcoming series could finally mark a turning point for Lana as she begins confronting the psychological impact of her dangerous career.
Discussing where viewers find her character at the beginning of series four, Ms McClure explained: “We’ve got to deal with her, and she’s got to put herself first eventually.

Series creator Chris Brandon revealed therapy will provide viewers with a rare opportunity to explore a different side of the notoriously guarded character.
He explained: “It’s really great to get to a point where Lana can talk… because she’s quite a, she keeps herself to herself as a character.
“And so to be able to find the right kind of therapist for her, and to allow her to investigate the side of herself that we’ve not necessarily seen, has just been fantastic.”

PAMs McClure also shed further light on Lana’s state of mind, explaining that years of exposure to devastating incidents have left her struggling with a sense of emotional numbness.
She said: “There’s a numbness to her, because of the amount of tragedy that she’s faced, and whether it be close family or a stranger in, you know, a situation, she doesn’t feel, and that must be such a disconcerting and scary place to be.”
The Line of Duty star described having the opportunity to focus on one character’s psychological journey over several series as a “real privilege”.
However, Lana’s emotional struggles will unfold against what promises to be Trigger Point’s most ambitious series yet.

Co-star Eric Shango, who plays Danny, similarly claimed the programme had gone up “10 notches” from series three across its performances, visuals and atmosphere.
Mr Brandon also issued an ominous warning about the dangers facing the show’s characters, declaring: “No one’s safe. Literally not. No one.”
He continued: “Every episode is about tightening the screw until it has to break at some point.”
Despite the danger facing Lana, Ms McClure appeared to make clear she is not ready to hang up the bomb suit just yet when conversation turned to Trigger Point’s longer-term future.
Asked whether there could be more beyond series four, Mr Brandon responded: “Never say never.”
