Wayne and Coleen Rooney address sons’ surprising accents after admitting family is ‘really Scouse’
Wayne and Coleen Rooney have thrown open the doors of their Cheshire home for a new Disney+ documentary series, The Real Rooneys.
The couple, who have spent decades under intense public scrutiny, have until now kept much of their domestic life under wraps.
Their new show offers viewers an inside look at the day-to-day reality of raising four sons: Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight.
The series captures the household pandemonium that comes with a busy family, alongside Wayne navigating a television career and handling the school run, while Coleen pursues her own professional ventures with brands including Primark and Applied Nutrition.

One of the show’s standout talking points is the accent of eldest son Kai, whose speech bears little resemblance to his parents’ distinctive Liverpool tones.
Both Wayne and Coleen grew up in Croxteth, yet their children have developed something altogether different after being raised in Cheshire.
“I do think that with all our kids, they’ve not got like, an accent,” Coleen told LADbible.
Wayne acknowledged the disconnect, saying: “Kai’s at that age now where, 16-year-olds it’s a big influence from the music and I’ve been told it’s bit of a weird accent actually.”

Coleen recalled how relatives in Liverpool would remark that the boys sounded “so posh,” while their Cheshire schoolmates considered them common.
“I think they had that like crossover because we and our family are really Scouse,” Wayne explained.
Kai has also followed in his father’s footsteps on the football pitch.
In the documentary, Wayne observes his eldest playing football in the family’s back garden and likens it to watching a reflection of himself, only “left-footed”, as the teenager repeatedly finds the net.

The Manchester United youth striker is now approaching the age at which his father made his senior Everton debut more than two decades ago.
Yet the Rooney children have experienced fame from an entirely different starting point, having lived under public attention since birth.
“When we look back now, we see our boys, like Kai’s 16, nearly 17, we were young and I don’t think you realise that until years later,” Coleen reflected.
“They handle it well because it’s something they’ve grown up with.”
Wayne believes the couple’s own experiences equip them to steer their children through the pressures of public life.
“We can obviously give them advice and help them learn from our mistakes if you like,” he told LADbible, adding that Kai in particular has become “his own person” since committing to football full-time.
“He knows what he wants and then we’re obviously there when he needs us to help and guide him.”

“We didn’t want to hold back on anything,” Coleen said of the new series.
“There was days when the cameras were there, Wayne didn’t want to get out of bed, it’s just life and I think that’s what people want to see because they can relate to that.”
